Cooking the Past: Bread & Soup

Discover how bread and soup were made in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries by stepping into our historic kitchens! Experience the changing technology of everyday cooking at our Fur Trade Cabin, Fort Detached Kitchen and Officer’s Quarters, and Belgian Farmhouse. Watch as interpreters prepare bread and soup using authentic methods and equipment, and encounter changing innovations to hearths, stoves, cookware, and kitchen tools. In the afternoon and while supplies last, taste the past through samples of the bread and soup cooked by our interpreters!

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a home baker, curious about how people cooked before modern conveniences, or simply a foodie, Cooking the Past offers a look into history through the food our ancestors prepared and ate. General admission rates apply, members free.
