For one unforgettable evening, leave the modern world behind and step into the fascinating world of 1760s Green Bay at the Snap Dragon Tavern at Heritage Hill State Historical Park.
Join British soldiers, French Voyageurs, and fur traders for an immersive historical experience filled with period drinks, traditional games, lively songs, and dancing by firelight. You’ll be part of the scene, rubbing elbows with the people of the past and discovering what an evening at an 18th-century tavern was really like.
Whether you’re looking for a unique date night, an unforgettable evening with friends, or a new way to experience local history, the Snap Dragon Tavern offers a night unlike any other.
Raise a Tankard to the Past
Step up to the tavern keeper’s caged bar and exchange English coin tokens for period-inspired libations. Your ticket includes tokens to sample traditional tavern beverages, with selections such as ale, port, rum punch, and other period drinks. Nonalcoholic options, including mulled apple cider, will also be available. All beverages are served in 18th-century-style mugs and tankards.
Try Your Luck at Period Games
Take a seat among the tavern patrons and try historic games such as Faro, Chuck-a-luck, and the Royal Game of Goose. Watch the notorious game of Snap Dragon and experience the spirited entertainment that brought tavern-goers together centuries ago.
Dance by Lantern Light
Step into the courtyard for period country dancing beneath the warm glow of lanterns and beside a crackling fire. You might find yourself dancing with a British soldier or a French lady or gentleman!
Sing Along to Songs of the 18th Century
Enjoy traditional songs and sea chanteys that fill the tavern with music, laughter, and the lively spirit of the past. Singing along is encourages!
Settle In by the Hearth
Not every tavern patron needs to be on their feet. Find a place near the warming fire, enjoy a drink, and soak up the sights, sounds, and friendly shadows of another era.
Reserve Your Place at the Tavern
The Snap Dragon Tavern experience is intentionally limited to 30 participants, creating an intimate atmosphere where you can interact with interpreters, enjoy the activities, and become part of the story.
- Advance registration is required.
- Tickets are $40 for Heritage Hill members and $50 for nonmembers.
- Your ticket includes English coin tokens for sampling at least three period beverages.
- The tram will leave from the Education Center promptly at 5 pm. If you cannot make it for 5 pm, please let us know!
