Snap Dragon Tavern
Enjoy an Evening at the Snap Dragon Tavern, an 18th century immersion into a 1760s tavern setting. Visit with a tavern keeper behind an authentic caged tavern at the infamous Snap Dragon Tavern where spirits are high and the worries of life are low. Enjoy a few 18th century libations and mingle with British soldiers, local French citizens and the hard-working fur traders of this bucolic place and time. Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Join the patrons inside the tavern and play select period games such as Faro, Chuck-a-luck, the Royal Game of Goose, and observe tavern-goers play the infamous game of Snap Dragon.
- Fill the room with gaiety as you hear and sing along with the songs and sea chanteys of the 18th century era.
- Dance on a lantern-lit courtyard with a British soldier or a French lady or gentleman in the warm ambient light.
- Converse with costumed historic interpreters in their vibrant military uniforms, or with gentleman in frock coats and ladies in their resplendent period gowns.
- Or just sit near the hearth of a warm fire in the tavern and drift into the ambience amidst friendly shadows of yesteryear with your tankard filled with a drink of your choice.
Participants will be given English coin tokens to purchase beverages from the tavern keeper and will have the opportunity to sample at least 3 common tavern drinks of the period such as ale and punch. Various non-alcoholic beverages will also be available, all served in 18th century mugs and tankards.
Tram service will be provided intermittently throughout the evening between the Education Center to the Snap Dragon Tavern, located in Heritage Hill’s Fur Trade area. Participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight. The event is for participants ages 21+ only.
Registration is limited to 30 participants and is required in advance.
Tickets are $40 for members and $50 for non-members.
