Field Trip FAQ’s

Every journey begins with good planning. Here’s what you need to know to plan your Heritage Hill field trip:

Date and times

Field trips are offered May – October: Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

What’s included

Field trips are self-guided so you can explore Heritage Hill at your own pace. Historical interpreters will be on hand to engage students in hands-on learning. Visitors can expect to spend approximately 30-45 minutes in each of the 4 historical areas of the park, but are always welcome to spend as much time as they like in each!

Lunches

Bring your lunch and picnic on the grounds! Staff will schedule a lunch time under our picnic shelter for your group and transport your lunches to the designated eating area. Lunches will be returned to the entrance/exit after the last scheduled lunch period.

Gift Shop

Feel free to enjoy the gift shop located in the Education Center adjacent to the entrance/exit. Students must be accompanied by a chaperone to enter. Due to its small size, we ask that you restrict entry to one student group (15 students) at a time.

We welcome pre-orders of t-shirts featuring the Heritage Hill logo. Shirts are available in youth and adult sizing, starting at $15.00. Orders and payment are due 4 weeks prior to your field trip. For more information or to pre-order, please use the request form here.

Weather

Our programs run rain or shine so come dressed for the weather! Currently, we do not offer rain days or refunds for schools who do not attend due to weather conditions.

Accessibility

Heritage Hill’s buildings and pathways are wheelchair accessible but please be aware that we are on a hill and weather can make conditions slippery.

Cost

Students cost $6 each – teachers and teacher aides are free!

We require 1 adult for every 15 students. These adults are free. Additional chaperones cost $10 each (or $12 if purchased at the door the day of the field trip). Memberships and passes are not valid for field trips.

Need help funding a trip? The Heritage Hill Foundation provides free admission for students at schools the Department of Public Instruction has identified as 50% or more “economically disadvantaged” per their website. Heritage Hill staff will verify your eligibility for this upon booking.

Payment

Payment is due by check or credit card 7 days prior to your scheduled field trip date. Please include your invoice number, school name and the date of your field trip with your payment.

Cancellations

Cancellations can be made at any time. If made within 7 days of the scheduled field trip, a service charge of $100 will be charged.

Groups that are a no-show for their scheduled field trip will be invoiced the full cost of the trip.

No refunds will be given for students or chaperones who do not attend the field trip.

Chaperone Responsibilities

We depend on chaperones to help ensure an enjoyable and safe visit for everyone! Please stay with your group and keep them together at all times. Help facilitate the learning process by pointing out things of interest, promoting participation, and encouraging questions. Model, monitor, and enforce good behavior.
