Homeschooling
We want you to have the best homeschool experience possible! Here’s what you need to know about homeschool workshops at Heritage Hill.
- Homeschool workshops are open to all students ages 6+. However, please note the targeted grade level for each workshop.
- Students and adults cost $8 each (for members) and $10 each (for non-members). Learn more about membership here.
- Registration and payment are required in advance. Cancellations can be made up to 7 days before the event for a full refund. Cancellations within 7 days of the event and no-shows to the event are not eligible for a refund. Space is limited.
- Students must be accompanied by an adult.
- You may spend time outside during your homeschool workshop so wear comfortable footgear. Our programs run rain or shine so come dressed for the weather!
- Heritage Hill’s buildings and pathways are wheelchair accessible but please be aware that we are on a hill and weather can make conditions slippery.

Homeschool Workshops for 2024-2025
Playful Pastimes
December 3, 2024, 10:30am – 12noon
Best suited for students in grades 3 – 5
It’s the holiday season, so take a break and have some fun! Students will discover the various types of games Wisconsin children played in the past; play a variety of 19th and 20th century games; and make some old-fashioned toys to take home.
An Immigrant’s Journey
January 7, 2025, 10:30am – 12noon
Best suited for grades 3 – 5
Join us as we learn about immigrants in Wisconsin. Learn why people leave one country for another, what immigrant communities have settled in Wisconsin, and what it takes to journey to a new home. Students will discuss reasons why people immigrate; view historic examples of immigration promotions and create their own; participate in a gallery walk and mapping exercise focusing on the home countries of Wisconsin immigrants; and conduct an artifact analysis to determine what an immigrant would bring with them to a new country.
President’s Day at Heritage Hill
February 4, 2025, 10:30 am – 12noon
Best suited for grades 4 – 6
Celebrate President’s Day by learning about past U.S. leaders, what it takes to campaign for president, and the importance of voting. Students will learn vocabulary words related to presidents and elections; read about U.S. presidents in a gallery walk; write campaign slogans and create campaign posters; and finally, register to vote and vote in a mock election.
Wonderful Wisconsin Women
March 4, 2025, 10:30am – 12noon
Best suited for grades 3 – 5
In honor of Women’s History Month, come celebrate wonderful Wisconsin women at Heritage Hill while learning about women with Wisconsin ties from the past 200 years. Students will begin a memoir with quill and ink like Elizabeth Baird; decorate suffrage sashes as Carrie Chapman Catt did; thank female servicemembers in honor of Ellen Ainsworth; and add their own nomination to the list of wonderful Wisconsin women!
Nature Celebration
April 1, 2025, 10:30am – 12noon
Best suited for students in grades 3 – 5
Join us for a Nature Celebration at Heritage Hill! Students will learn about different types of gardens and their purposes; go on both a traditional nature hike and a 1-foot hike and record their observations in a nature journal; use what they learn to design a garden; and plant a Heritage Hill inspired garden to take home.
