Experience Green Bay in 1779 and learn more about Charles de Langlade and his expedition from La Baye (Green Bay) during The American Revolution in the year 1779.
The land that we now call Wisconsin during the years 1775 -1783 was in great distress. Under British control, the Native American tribes and French Canadians that inhabited the region were closely allied to his Majesty King George III and the war effort against the rebelling Americans on the east coast. Here at Heritage Hill, come experience the French inhabitants that once lived here prepare for an expedition to save the land that we now call the upper Midwest. The Americans had invaded what was known as the Illinois country in 1778 and rumors were spreading like wildfire that places such as Detroit, Green Bay, and Michilimackinac were next on the list to be taken for American Liberty! On Saturday, June 28th
- Get a first hand look at what the Canadian militia looked like in the 1770s and what they carried.
- Listen to first hand accounts from the British commander at Michilimackinac when he issued orders to Langlade who was stationed at Green Bay
- Hear the story of the expedition as they headed south from Green Bay along the lake shore to link up with another British force moving towards Chicago.
- Learn about Charles de Langlade who was a prominent Fur Trader in the area since 1745 and his contributions to the Revolutionary War on the side of England.
- Experience musket firing demonstrations and learn about the different foods that the French Canadians would have carried on these long hard expeditions.
- Learn about women on the frontier and the lifestyles they lived!
